ACB books police DySp for amassing assets disproportionate to his income

JAMMU, JUNE 26: The Anti Corruption Bureau, J&K, on Wednesday claimed to have booked a DySP in the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Chanchal Singh, on charges of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The case was registered on the basis of a secret verification which revealed that the accused officer during his posting at lucrative posts has accumulated various moveable and immoveable properties in his own name and in the names of his family members, relatives and “benami’’ as well which include residential houses, plots, shops at various places across Jammu and Kashmir, besides two hotels in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district.

The ACB officials, after obtaining search warrants from the court, conducted searches at the residences and offices of the accused as well as his family members and relatives in different districts of Jammu province, besides Srinagar and Manali.

Many incriminating documents and valuables were found during searches which included an agreement of sell dated February 25, 2022 executed between one Ved Parkash of Shimla and Rekha Devi wife of DySP Chanchal Singh, mentioning the purchase of 12.03 hectares of land at Mohal and Phati Burua Kothi in Kullu district for Rs 2.85 crore and out of which, she has given Rs 50 lakh in advance (Rs 25 lakh through cheque and Rs 25 lakh in cash).

Suring searches conducted at Kathua district’s Hatli area, some documents pertaining to benami properties in the shap of will deed involving huge chunk of land were also seized.
