Govt has taken recent terror attacks ”very seriously”
SRINAGAR, JUNE 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said preparations for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir have begun and the Union territory will get back its statehood too.
Addressing an event – ‘Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K’ event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, he said the people of Jammu and Kashmir elect their representatives at the local level and through them find ways to solve problems. What can be better than this? he asked.
Pointing out that the preparations for the Assembly elections have also started, he said the time is not far when you will elect the new government of Jammu and Kashmir with your votes. That day will also come soon, when Jammu and Kashmir will once again make its future better as a state, he added
Pointing out that the government has taken the recent terror attacks “very seriously”, Modi said that “I assure you that we will not hesitate to teach a lesson to the enemies of Jammu & Kashmir.”
He said that 84 major developmental projects valued at more than ₹1,500 crores have been inaugurated here. Apart from this, projects related to the agriculture sector worth ₹1800 crore have also been launched, he said.
New national highways and expressways are being constructed here. Every Indian feels proud when they see pictures of the world’s highest bridge on the river Chenab, he added.
Pointing out that the changes seen in Jammu and Kashmir are the result of his government’s work in the last ten years, PM said that the “wall of Article 370 has collapsed and fruits of Constitution ensured in JK. Today the Indian Constitution has truly been implemented in JK.”
He said that an aspirational society has only one parameter – performance. The country saw the performance and it is the result of this performance that the government has got a chance for the third time. “Our government performs and delivers results. Forming the govt for the third time has given a message of stability to the world,” he added.
Modi arrived here on two day visit on Thursday.
This is PM Narendra Modi’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after taking charge as the prime minister for the third time consecutively.
On 21st June, at around 6.30 AM, the prime minister will participate in the 10th International Day of Yoga event at SKICC in Srinagar. The Prime Minister will address the gathering on the occasion and take part in the CYP Yoga session thereafter,” an official handout from the Press Information Bureau said.
Security across Jammu and Kashmir was heightened in preperation of the prime minister’s visit on Thursday. Security forces personnel have been deployed in strength across Srinagar City to ensure the prime minister’s visit passes off peacefully, and the roads leading to the SKICC have been sealed.
