J&K Police detain 3 villagers who provided food to militants behind attacks in Doda

DODA, JUNE 17: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have apprehended three people who reportedly provided food to militants behind back to back attacks on police and army in Doda district.

A senior police officer confirmed the apprehensions, but he did not divulge details except that the villagers hailed from Darman village in Bhaderwah’s Jhai area. 

Meanwhile, sources identified them as Sajjad Ahmed Wani, 40, Abdul Subhan Wani, 65, and Mubashir Ahmed, 17.

Militants had attacked a joint naka of police and army in the picturesque Chattergala area of Bhaderwah adjoining Kathua district on Tuesday night, injuring five army personnel and an SPO.

Next day when police and security forces were carrying searches for them, militants again attacked them at Kota Top in Gandoh’s Bhalessa area, injuring an SPO.

The militants behind these twin attacks are believed to be four in numbers and they had  reportedly stayed in Jhai area for few days before targeting police and security forces personnel at Chattergala and in Kota Top areas. 

During their stay, the militants had reportedly visited the apprehended villagers who along with their livestock had been camping in the highland meadows there and  had allegedly asked them to provide food on gun point.

According to police sources, these villagers did not inform the police about militants on time.

On the basis of description provided by these villagers, the police have released sketch of all the four militants who are believed to be Pakistani nationals and are roaming in upper areas of Bhaderwah, Thathri and Gandoh in Doda district. An award of Rs 20 lakh has also been announced for information leading to their arrest or elimination.
