NEW DELHI, JUNE 17: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will keep the Raebareli seat and vacate the Wayanad Lok Sabha, said party president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday.

Taking to media persons, Kharge said that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will fight from Wayanad in Kerala. The party has decided that Rahul Gandhi should retain Rae Bareli seat since it is close to the family.

Rahul Gandhi had won from two Lok Sabha constituencies and as per the law, he has to vacate one seat. While he had retained Wayanad seat by a margin of 3.64 lakh votes after defeating CPI(M) candidate Annie Raja, he had wrested back Raebareli  defeating BJP’s Dinesh Pratap Singh by a margin of 3.90 lakh votes.

The Congress leader had entered Lok Sabha from Wayanad in 2019 after he had lost the electoral battle in Amethi to the then union minister Smriti Irani.
