JAMMU, JUNE 17: Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday appointed union minister G. Kishan Reddy as party’s election incharge for Jammu and Kashmir.
The decision, according to a party communiqué, has been taken by BJP’s national president J.P. Nadda in view of the coming assembly elections in Jammu Kashmir, Maharashtra, Harayana and Jharkhand.
Following successful conduct of Lok Sabha polls in J&K, the Election Commission had said that assembly elections in the Union Territory will also be held soon.
The last time, assembly elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir in 2014 resulting in the formation of PDP-BJP coalition government. However, the government fell ahead of schedule after BJP moved out of coalition in 2018.
The Supreme Court while upholding the Central Government’s decision to abrogate Article 370 had also asked for holding of assembly elections in J&K by September 30, 2024.
