J&K Police kill one militant in Kathua district

JAMMU, JUNE 11: In a swift action, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday night killed one of the three militants who had attacked a house at village Saida in Kathua district.

“One militant has been killed in encounter at Saida village. The operation is in progress,’’ a police spokesperson said.

While details were awaited, locals said that three militants arrived at the village around 7.30 pm. The village dogs on finding strangers started barking attracting the attention of villagers.

The militants in order to keep villagers away opened fire and ran towards a nearby house and knocked at its doors. One civilian was injured, but his condition was stable.

The house owner, who had heard the gun fire, did not respond making militants to open fire at the house. While police were yet to confirm these details, union minister of state Dr Jitendra Singh confirmed on ‘X’ that he was “in continuous online contact with DC #Kathua Sh Rakesh Minhas in the wake of terrorist attack on a house in village Saida in Hiranagar sector close to the International Border”. 

Pointing out that he was aalso in touch with SSP Kathua Anayat Ali Choudhary who is on the spot, the minister said that “the owner of the house that was attacked is also in touch on mobile phone”. Joint police & paramilitary operation is going on. He and his officers are in constant touch and keeping a close watch on the developments, he added.
