Two Gataru gang members detained under PSA in Samba

SAMBA, MAY 11: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday detained two notorious criminals under the stringent Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act and got lodged them in Kathua jail.

Identifying the gangsters as Sumit Jandyal alias Gataru and Sourav Gupta, both residents of Vijaypur and owing allegiance to Gataru gang, police said that they have been involved in criminal activities in an organized manner, thus posing a threat to public peace and order.

The detention has been made as part of the police drive to curb activities of the criminal gangs in Samba district, it said.

Their detention orders were issued by the Samba District Magistrate on the basis of detailed dossiers prepared by SSP Samba. SHO Vijaypur police station these warrants, leading to the incarceration of the accused in District Jail Kathua.

Pointing out that both Sumit Jandyal and Sourav Gupta were brothers, police said that the former was head of the Gataru gang.

The gang was involved in various criminal activities including attempt to murder, robbery, breach of peace, extortion, cheating and land grabbing. Both the criminals had multiple criminal cases registered against them in various police stations in Samba and Jammu districts, it added.
