12 Maoists killed by security forces in Chhattisgarh

RAIPUR, MAY 10: Twelve Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces and Chhattisgarh Police in Bijapur district on Friday.

Officials said that the encounter took place in a forest near Pidia village under the jurisdiction of Gangaloor police station. The contact was established with Maoists when a team of  security personnel was out on anti-Naxal operation.

The police recovered 12 arms including a barrel grenade launcher, one 12 bore rifle and muzzle loading rifles from the spot, officials said, adding the bodies of slain Maoists are yet to be identified.

With this, the total number of Maoists killed during the current year has crossed 100 as 91 Maoist had been killed by security forces till last month.
