Army major among two army men killed in encounter with militants in Rajouri’s Kalakote area

One militant killed in the fire fight which was continuing

JAMMU, NOVEMBER 22: An Amy major was among two soldiers killed in an encounter with militants hiding in dense forests of Rajouri district’s Bazi Mal area of Kalakote in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

One militant was also killed in the encounter which was still in progress.

Sources said that the contact with militants got established in the morning after they opened fire on a joint party of J&K Police and security forces carrying out cordon and search operation for them for the past several days.

The deceased Major was from 63 Rashtriya Rifles, while the other soldier was from Army’s Special Forces. The latter was part of special forces team who had gone into the forests to retrieve the body of the Major, but came under heavy volume of fire from militants.

The operation is still in progress with nearly 5-6 militants believed to be hiding in the forests.

More reinforcements have been rushed to the encounter site and area has been cordoned.
