ED detains Ch. Lal Singh in money laundering case

JAMMU, NOVEMBER 7: Former minister Choudhary Lal Singh was on Tuesday detained by the officials of the Enforcement Directorate in a case of money laundering here.

Though there has been no official word about it, Singh’s wife and ex-MLA Kanta Andotra along with her supporters assembled outside the office of ED here and insisted on meeting her husband. “We had planned to go to Kathua after dinner, but they did not allow him to take meals,’’ she alleged.

Meanwhile, sources said that Singh was picked up from the house of a contractor in Chowadhi area.

The arrest follows rejection of his application for anticipatory bail by the Special Judge Anti-Corruption (CBI cases) Bala Jyoti earlier during the day saying that charges against him were grave and serious, and the investigation agency must be given sufficient time in conducting analysed and effective investigation in the matter.

The court, however, extended till November 30 the anticipatory bail to SINGH’s wife Kanta Andotra and his daughter Dr Kranti Singh.While Kanta Andotra is chairperson of R B Educational Trust, Dr Kranti Singh is it’s trustee.

The Trust through Kanta Andotra in conspiracy with certain revenue officials is alleged to have acquired 259 Kanal (31.25 acres) of land against the stipulated limit of standard 100 kanals (12.5 acre) as mandated under the J&K Agrarian Reforms Act 1976.
