Ramban: As part of its programme to hold standard writing competition in schools who have established standard clubs, the Bureau of Indian Standards today reached Halla Dhandrath area of Ramban district.
The competition was organised in Government Higher Secondary School Halla Dhandrath in which 24 students participated.
Another such competition was organised in Government Model Higher Secondary School (GMHSS) Ramban in which 21 students participated and wrote standards.
The day began with the competition being organised in GMHSS Ramban where Principal K.K. Sharma remained attached with BIS resource support team (RST) member Raja Amir Karim Tantray and expressed satisfaction on organising such an event in his school.
Thereafter the journey towards Dhandrath began and after giving dodge to the nightmare of traffic jam on Ramban to Karol stretch of Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the BIS RST member moved uphill on single but tough road. By commuting for over one hour, Tantray reached near top of a hill where the GHSS Dhandrath was situated.
The staff and students of the school expressed happiness of attending one of the rare competitions in their area where concept of standardisation was a distant dream, not only for students but for the staff as well.
At both the schools, Tantray gave overview of BIS and its work regarding ISI marking, hallmarking of gold and concept of standardisation during his orientation programme. The students were apprised about the functioning of BIS Care App and how they can differentiate between genuine and counterfeit products through this app.
At GHSS Dhandrath, the competition was organised by BIS mentor Manohar Lal, who is also a teacher in the school.
The incharge principal Ramesh Singh Balwal was all praise for BIS and its RST for organising this kind of competition and hoped that in future also more such programmes will be held.
At both the schools, first four winners were given cash prizes on behalf of BIS Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO).
The programme was organised on the directions of Director BIS Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) Tilak Raj and BIS officer Ashish Diwedi supervised it.
