JAMMU, OCTOBER 2: A surrendered militant was among two people arrested by police from Basantgarh area in connection with twin explosions which took place in Udhampur town on the intervening night of September 28-29.
Lashkar-E-Toiba appears to be behind both the blasts where were caused by sticky bombs planted on two different buses plying on the Udhampur-Basantgarh route, sources said.
While two people including bus conductor were injured during the first explosion at Domail Chowk on September 28 night, the other explosion took place at Udhampur bus stand during wee hours of September 29.
The surrendered militant had been involved in a number of militant activities before he laid down arms. He had come out after spending 10 years in jail.
His brother, who was also a militant, had settled in Pakistan after marrying a local girl there, sources said, adding that both were in contact with each other over social media and phone calls.
Both the apprehended surrendered militant and his associate have confessed having planted sticky bombs which the former had brought from Kathua district’s Hiranagar area. They had planted the bombs two Udhampur bound buses at Ramnagar bus stand on Wednesday evening last, sources said.
Sources said that some more apprehensions were likely as the police investigations into the matter were in progress.
Earlier on March 9 this year, one person was killed and over a dozen others injured in an explosion caused by a sticky bomb in Udhampur town’s Slathia Chowk. The police had arrested three Lashkar militants from Ramban district’s Banihal and Doda district.
