JAMMU, JULY 19: The State Investigation Agency (SIA), on Tuesday conducted raids at multiple locations in Baramulla district of Kashmir and arrested a number of people found involved in narcotics terror funding.
The raids were conducted as part of its investigations in a terror funding case.
Pointing out that the agency during raids was helped by the police and civil administration in the district, an official statement here said the investigation agency collected a number of evidences with regard to the smuggling of narcotics from across the border and generation of of funds from its sale for financing terror modules, separatists, over ground workers and the families of slain militants.
During investigations, it was also found that the money generated from the sale of narcotics has been used to “finance some fake journalists for creating fake/wrong narrative against the Union Territory, to support and glorify terrorism by using different social media platforms etc., besides indoctrinating and alluring youngsters into terrorism”, it added.
The Jammu and Kashmir had in April this year arrested former minister Babu Singh in Kathua in a case relating to terror funding. This followed apprehension of Mihammad Shareef Shah, an Anantnag resident by police in Jammu on March 31 and seizure of Rs 6.90 lakh hawala money from him.
During questioning, Shah revealed the names of his local and foreign associates including Javed and Khatib, both residents of Pakistan occupied Kashmir, and Farooq Khan of Toronto in Canada.
