Assembly polls in J&K likely by end of 2022; says Rajnath Singh

JAMMU, JUNE 17: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said that assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are likely to be held by the end of 2022.

Speaking at function here to mark the 200 years of the coronation of Maharaja Gulab Singh, first Dogra ruler of undivided Jammu and Kashmir, he said recently, the delimitation exercise has concluded in J&K. Now, Jammu will have 43 seats & Kashmir will have 47 seats in Vidhan Sabha. “““`

“There appears to be a strong possibility that the electoral process commencing by the end of this year in J&K,” he added.

Without naming Pakistan, he said “`Our neighbouring country is sowing the seeds of hatred. There’s foreign conspiracy in recent targeted killings in J&K, we need to foil such attempts. We won’t let the forceful migration happen of any person from any religion or sect”.
