JAMMU, APRIL 28: A major tragedy was averted here on Thursday due to timely detection of an IED along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway at Sidhra Bye Pass in Jammu.

According to police, the IED was hidden inside a bag left abandoned on the roadside.

The police immediately swung into action and stopped vehicular traffic on the road. The bomb disposal squad was called who defused the IED.

Significantly, only on Friday morning, the Jammu Kashmir Police had eliminated two heavily armed Pakistani fidayeens and foiled Jaish-e-Mohammad’s plan to carry out a major terror strike in Jammu city ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A CISF ASI was martyred and some police and CISF personnel injured in fire fight with the slain militants.
