Four killed, 13 injured in fire at a scrap shop in Residency Road

JAMMU, MARCH 14: Four people including two women and a child were toasted alive and 15 others sustained burns in devastating fire that broke out in a scrap dealer’s godown in Rssidency Road on Monday evening.

According to SSP Jammu, Chandan Kohli, fire brokeout in a scrap shop located in Residency road area during evening hours. 

Short circuit in electricity wiring is suspected to be the cause of fire breakout in initial state. 

In the incident, fire flames engulfed entire building and some LPG cylinders lying inside also exploded. 

Thirteen person sustained injuries in the incident who all have been evacuated from the site with hectic efforts of police, fire and emergency services assisted by locals and all injured are under treatment in local hospital, he said.

“Unfortunately, four people have so far lost their lives in this tragic incident,” he said, adding the rescue operation was in progress.
