JAMMU, NOVEMBER 2: Tanmay Gupta of Jammu, who has created history by becoming  the first from Jammu and Kashmir to top the NEET 2021 and share the All India Rank I with two others by securing 720 out of 720 marks among more than 16 Lac students who appeared in the all India medical entrance on September 12 this year, had never thought of getting admission in country’s prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi .

““““Our target was that Tanmay gets admission in Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi, or the VVMC Delhi,” said his father Dr Akshay Gupta, Professor and Head of Orthodontics at Government Dental College, here. “Getting admission in AIIMS Delhi was something beyond our imagination and for Tanmay achieving this feat, we are thankful to God ,’’ he added.

I am glad that I could make my UT proud by bringing it on the forefront of our Nation, as Jammu &Kashmir being part of the country is still kept separated as far as Medical admissions in premier institutions of other  country is concerned.

Success story of Tanmay Gupta started after his 10th board results. After scoring perfect 100% marks ,both in Science and Maths in CBSE board, his father Dr. Akshay Gupta who is Professor and Head of Orthodontics at Government Dental College, realised that Tanmay should get an opportunity to be in  more competitive environment where he can access and polish his potential while in company of students from all part of the  country. With this in mind , it was discussed with Tanmay’s mother Dr Shivali Gupta who is a dentist by profession. It was a tough decision both for Tanmay  his parents and his grand parents , for him to leave hometown as being the only child . But when he cracked entrance of one of the premier School  of Delhi , DPS R.K. Puram , it was finalised, as Tanmay was also enthusiastic to be in an wider environment with more scope , which could helphim to  soar his wings wide to excel in wider horizons.

Sharing his views with our correspondent Tanmay said that students from J&K are having as good potential as any other part of the country, only difference is that we need to think beyond being a  “Contented Fish of a Pond ” , in this world of Globalisation when everyoneis talking about our Honourable PM Narinder Modi ji’s Mantra about One Earth One Health, we in J&K inspite of being a part of worlds largest democracy, are still keeping our potential limited to a confined place. Having a Cosmo environment  by having amalgamation of students across the country in our institutions and creating opportunity for students from UT of J&k to get admissions in other premiere institutions of the country will help to overall upbringing and better professional education environment for everyone from our UT .

If I can achieve this , everyone from J&k can achieve this, only thing we need to think beyond box and be consistent in our efforts. According to Tanmay , it is more important to be consistent in our studies  than to increase the number of hours. I used to study 3 to 5  hours everyday after school and whenever it was holiday, it used to be 7 to 8 hours. I always had target for each day , and when I accomplished that, it used to give me sense of euphoria and helps  me  more motivated to achieve my target and to maintain and improve my work. With having target to get admission in one of the best institution of the country “Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi” in my mind I left my hometown and studied11th  and 12th in Delhi, but God had different plans for me, and  I was blessed to be eligible to be selected in India’s top and worlds one of the best Institution in Medical Sciences, AIIMS Delhi.

Hobbies of Tanmay Gupta includes Swimming and to watch light hearted tv programs. He could not peruse his passion for swimming due to Covid pandemic , but  he used spare time to watch cricket and some tv while pursuing for his dreams to become a  Doctor .  He however kept himself completely away from social media and other OTT platforms. While studying at KC public school jammu till  10th standard Tanmay has also participated and Represented Jammu & Kashmir  in various National Sports events in swimming.
