Body of Capt Jayant Joshi recovered from Ranjit Sagar lake after 75 days

JAMMU, OCTOBER 17: Army and navy divers on Sunday recovered the body of Captain Jayant Joshi from Ranjit Sagar lake over Ravi river near Basohli after 75 days.

Captain Joshi along with Lt Colonel A S Baath had drowned after their helicopter had crashed into the lake waters on August 3 this year. Lt Colonel Baath’s body was recovered on August 15.

“Persistent efforts by Indian Army and Navy for 75 days which were going on day and night to recover the body of Capt Jayant Joshi, the second pilot of the helicopter which crashed in Ranjit Sagar Dam on August 3 have finally succeeded and the body has been recovered from the lake bed using hi tech equipment,” said Army PRO Lt Col Devender Anand here.  

He said that the search and rescue team was using state-of-the-art multi beam sonar equipment to scan the lake bed in view of the vast expanse and depth of the water body.

Pointing out that based on the inputs received, the remotely operated vehicle having robotic arm along with the professional divers were launched to search the area. “During similar search on Sunday, the body of Captain Jayant Joshi was detected at a depth of 65-70 meters and immediately the ROV was launched to recover (it),” he said.

The body after local medical examination was evacuated to Military Hospital at Pathankot for further examination, Army PRO said, adding that the “Indian Army once again demonstrate its resolve towards its soldiers and took all possible actions to recover the body of Capt Jayant Joshi, a young pilot who made the supreme sacrifice in line of duty”.
