JAMMU, OCTOBER 14: A Junior Commissioned Officer and a jawan were martyred on Thursday evening as gun battle broke out between militants and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Mendhar area in border Poonch district.

Sources said that the identity of the martyred soldiers was yet to be ascertained. The contact between militants and security forces took place during combing operations by the latter in forests at Bhata Dhurian area. The encounter was in progress.

Following this, the movement of vehicular traffic between Bhimber Gali and Surankote along the Rajouri-Poonch national highway has been suspended. More reinforcements have been rushed to the area.

On October 11, a JCO and four jawans were martyred in fierce gun battled with a group of militants in dense forests on Poonch side of the Dehra Ki Gali on the Mughal Road. The contact with militants was established following combing operation by Army on intelligence inputs.
