Five surrendered militants among 21 absconders arrested in Reasi district

100 absconding criminals apprehended in last five months, some 20-30 years after the commission of crime

Reasi, September 30: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Reasi district in another round of chase, raids and searches arrested 21 absconders who had been evading arrests for past many years.

With this, the total number of absconding criminals apprehended during the past five months has risen to 100. These included four over ground workers, ten surrendered militants, five murder and attempt to murder accused, 19 involved in kidnapping and rape, nine drug peddlers and 53 involved in other offences.

Evading arrests since long, a dozen of them were arrested after 30 years, 18 after 20 years and 31 after 10 years, police said, adding that 39 absconders were arrested five years after the commission of crime.

Facing the heat from police, ten absconders apprehending apprehension by cops themselves surrendered before respective courts in Reasi district.

Following are the details of some of the absconders who were evading apprehension since years:-

Makhna: A resident of Thuroo-Arnas, he was wanted by police in an attempt to murder case and for illegal possession of weapon. He was arrested from Jammu after 23 years of the commission of crime.

Wali Mohammad alias Waliya: A surrendered millitant of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen outfit, he was wanted by Mahore police station in connection with a murder case and for illegal possession of weapon. A general warrant of arrest was already issued against him by a court at Mahore and he was finally arrested 27 years after the commission of crime.

Abdul Latif: A resident of Chakras in Mahore tehsil, he was a surrendered militant of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit. After surrender, he faced trial in a court on charges of attempt to murder and under provisions of Indian Arms Act. However, after sometime, he jumped trial and a general warrant of arrest was issued against him by the trial court. He was arrested 19 years after the commission of crime.

Abdul Rashid: Another Hizbul Mujahideen surrendered militant of Dada in Mahore tehsil, he too was wanted in an attempt to murder case and for illegal possession of weapon for the past 19 years. A Mahore court has issued a general warrant of arrest against him as well.

Gani: Wanted in an attempt to murder case and for illegal possession of weapon, this surrendered HM militant of Mahore tehsil’s Thanda Soo village was arrested after 20 years of the commission of crime. 

Ranbir Singh alias Rana: A resident of Jammu’s Ban Talab area, he was arrested in an attempt to murder case after 14 years of the commission of crime. He had jumped trial to avoid conviction.

Sunil Kumar: A resident of Nayal Katra, he was arrested in a murder case and for illegal possession of weapon after 23 years of the commission of crime. A general warrant of arrest was already issued against him by CJM Reasi.

Sher Ali: Charged with kidnapping and rape in 2014, this resident of TCP Khariyan had jumped trial to avoid conviction by the court. A general warrant of arrest already stood issued against him by Reasi CJM.

Anil Sharma alias Annu: A resident of Bari Brahmna, he was arrested from Jammu in a case registered under NDPS Act at Katra Police Station in 2015. To avoid conviction, he too had jumped trial in Sessions Court in Reasi.

Ramesh Singh: A drug peddler from Udhampur district’s Kanth Gali, he was wanted in a case registered under provisions of NDPS Act at Katra police station in 2011.To avoid  conviction, he too had jumped trial before Sessions Judge, Reasi.

Sudesh Chand alias Shindu: A resident of Katra’s Kunyar area, he was arrested in a case of cheating and forgery registered against him in 2010.

Joginder Singh: A Ghari Rehmbal resident, he was wanted by Reasi police in a case of cheating registered in 2010.

Yashpal of Baldnoo, Hassan Baba of Sopore, Sanjay Kumar of Rehmbal and Nirmal Singh of Garnai Lota too were apprended by police from different places nearly 12-14 years after the commission of crime.

While Shanak Singh of Panchairi was arrested 12 years after the commission of crime, Vijay Kumar of Ramnagar was apprehended after seven years. Naresh Kumar and Rakesh Singh, both residents of Udhampur district, were apprehended after nearly seven and 14 years after the commission of crime, respectively.

“F’RARI KI GRIFTARI” is an initiative of Shailender Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi for arresting the absconders who are evading arrests since years. Under this drive Reasi Police remained successful in nabbing hardcore, notorious and habitual criminals who were evading the due process of law since years and against whom General Warrants of Arrest were issued by different courts.

Singh said that arrests of these criminals is an important police work to maintain peace and tranquility in the area and the police in Reasi district will leave no stone unturned to arrest and produce them in concerned trial court of law. 

To proactively tighten noose against the criminals, police in Reasi district had recommended nine cases for cancellation of gun licenses with dossiers of history sheeters. Seven Gun Licenses have been cancelled and two cases are under process, he added.
