Doc suspended for falsely testing 32 school students Covid +ve in Rajouri district

Jammu, Sept 30: Rajouri Deputy Commissioner R K Shavan on Thursday suspended a doctor on charges of lackadaisical approach and dereliction of duty during the testing of students and staff during the reopening of schools in Thanamandi area of the hilly border district in Jammu and Kashmir.

Identifying the doctor as Dr Shabab Ahmed, a dental surgeon at CHC Thanamandi, Nodal Officer Covid-19, an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner said that 32 students at a private school were tested Covid positive during testing under his supervision on September 27.

As per SOPs, the students were shifted to Covid Care Centre, Plangarh, for isolation, it said, adding that all of them were tested negative following an RTPCR test conducted on all of them on September 28.

Ordering an enquiry into the matter, Deputy Commissioner held that Dr Shabab during his suspension shall remain attached with the office of Additional Deputy Commissioner, Koteranka.

He also ordered the Block Medical Officer, Darhal to explain her position regarding lapse on part of Health Department within three days so that further action under service rules may be initiated.
