Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations at Pathankot

Pathankot: The Swarnim Vijay Mashal is transversing the country as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the victory in the 1971 war was received by Brig Sandeep Sharda, Commander Pathankot Sub Area at the Kaman Singh Auditorium along with Brig Prahlad Singh, senior most veteran of Pathankot area.

The victory flame was lit by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the eternal flame of the National war memorial in Delhi on 16 Dec 2020 in memory of India’s victory in the 1971 war.

Deputy Commissioner Pathankot Sanyam Aggarwal, SSP Pathankot SS Lamba, IPS and a host of other civil dignitaries along with a large number of Veterans, Veer Naris and serving soldiers were present on the occasion.

The distinguished guests laid wreaths to pay homage to the valiant soldiers, who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1971 war. Veterans and serving soldiers paid rich tributes to the valiant war heroes for the sacrifices which led to the politico-military humiliation of our western adversary, the greatest surrender after the 2nd world war and the creation of Bangladesh.

The victory flame was brought to Kaman Singh Auditorium where other events such as screening of documentary on the 1971 war and the documentary on the cycling expedition undertaken by Pathankot Sub Area were presented.

The event culminated with the felicitation of Col Tirath Singh, Vir Chakra and Raj Kumari, wife of Late Hav Kans Raj, Vir Chakra, both awardees of the 1971 war by the Chief guest.

Brig Sandeep Sharda addressed the veterans and told them about the various welfare schemes and Veteran Sahayta Kendra’s set up for the welfare of veterans and Veer Naris in Pathankot. He expressed his gratitude to the veterans for gracing the occasion and making the event a huge success.

The Swarnim Vijay Mashal would remain in the folds of Pathankot Sub Area till 04 Oct 2021 during which a number of events would be held at various places to mark the occasion. These include the felicitation of war heroes and veer Naris , cultural programme by the students in Pathankot, various school level competitions and participation by NCC Cadets.
