Reasi: The Jammu and Kashmir Police during surprise naka and searches arrested two drug peddlers and recovered heroine, poppy straw, illicit liquor, money proceeds of drugs trade.
Team of Police check Post Balini during checking noticed suspicious movement of one person coming from Reasi towards Katra, who was chased and stopped for checking. He was identified as Pawan Singh alias Pammi of Sherwud Katra.
Suspecting him to be involved in drug peddling, an Executive Magistrate was called on the spot and during checking in his presence, police seized 43.5 gms of heroine like substance having market value worth over Rs 2.5 lacs. Cash worth Rs 43,500 was also recovered from him.
On this, an FIR No. 203/2021 was registered under Sections 8, 21, 22 NDPS Act at Katra Police Station. The accused has been arrested and further investigations initiated to unearth forward and backward linkages with other drug suppliers and consumers.
Pawan Singh is a notorious drug peddler of the area and he was earlier arrested a team from Katra Police Station with 40.5 gms of Heroine. He is already facing trial in that case in the Session Court at Reasi.
In another incident of drug peddling team of Police Station Reasi laid a surprise naka at IRP Chowk Reasi and during checking, it intercepted a tempo bearing registration number JK02AS 7616 driven by one Taj Mohd of Pouni. During checking, it seized poppy straw and 13 bottles of XXX Rum (750 ml each) from the possession of the driver. Following this, an FIR No. 179/2021 under sections 8, 15 NDPS Act and 48 a Excise Act was registered in Police Station Reasi.
The tempo driver has been arrested and the vehicle seized, police said, adding that further investigations in the matter were in progress.
Meanwhile, Reasi SSP Shailender Singh said that war against drugs will continue in Reasi under the banner “EK YUDH NASHE KE VIRUDH” till last nail in the coffin. Under the drive, Reasi Police registered 119 FIRs against 154 offenders in connection with drug abuse and illicit liquor during the last five months.
Singh appealed people from all sections of society to come forward and join hands with the police in fight against drug abuse so as to eradicate this menace from society and save the future generations.
