Naib Sarpanch among two arrested for attacking police party in Reasi district

Reasi: A naib sarpanch was among two people arrested by Jammu and Kashmir Police for allegedly attacking a police party in Reasi district’s Chassana area.

Giving details, police said that duo were wanted in a case under various provisions of Indian Penal Code and Damage to Public Property Act was already registered at Chassana Police Station on August 31 last when some notorious criminals of the area had attacked the police party during the arrest of a history sheeter Prem Singh and his accomplices in a rape case. Prem Singh was involved in seven criminal cases including rape and attempt to murder.

Identifying the arrested accused as naib sarpanch Maqsood Hussain Shah of Shergarhi Chassana and Bharat Singh of Thalkot, police said that the former had already been wanted various FIRs registered against him at Chassana police station including damage to public property, rape and involvement of sacrilege act. A history sheet has been opened in Police Station Chasana to keep him under constant surveillance & contain his unlawful activities.

Maqsood Hussain Shah was also involding in incident of snatching and he was  allegedly threatening SDPO Mahore through whatsapp messages and voice calls for registration of a false counter FIR against a villager who had loged a complaint against him at Chassana and Mahore police stations.

Bharat Singh, it said, also had a criminal past with FIR registered against him in East Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.

Reasi SSP Shailender Singh said that no one is above the law of the land, one who tries to disturb peace in the area shall be dealt with law and will have to account for unlawful deeds. He further appealed that innocent people of Mahore-Chassana area should not fall prey into hands of such notorious criminals and should maintain peace and tranquility, brotherhood & keep social fabric of society intact.
