Janmashtami celebrated with religious fervor in Jammu

Jammu: To seek the blessings of Lord Krishna, Janmashtami was celebrated across Jammu division on Monday with religious fervor and gaiety, with devotees observing fast and participating in bhajan-kirtan during the day.

The temples across Jammu division especially Jammu city and its outskirts were decorated with buntings and colorful flowers.

The main functions were held in Raghunath Temple Jammu where devotees started visiting from early in the morning. A huge congregation was also held there during the previous night up to 12 pm, the birth time of Lord Krishna.

People bursted crackers at 12 mid night, the time of Lord Krishna’s birth, while prayers were held in temples and ashrams to mark the occasion.

The function at Raghunath temple was organized by Dharmarth Trust Jammu, with devotees performing pooja in a traditional manner amid ringing of quench shells.

Another function was held at Geeta Bhawan, Parade by Sanatan Dharam Sabha (SDS) Jammu. The function started at 9 pm and culminated during mid night, when a jhanki was taken out in the Geeta Bhawan premises to mark the birth of Lord Krishna. The devotees were singing bhajan kirtan.

Similar jhankis were also taken out in different areas of Jammu including Janipur, Bantalab, Roop Nagar, Muthi and Barnai in which a large number of devotees participated.

Religious functions and bhajan kirtan to celebrate Janamashtami were held in the temples of Purani Mandi, Devi Dwara Mandir, Hanuman Mandir Lakh data Bazar,Ram Mandir Sector D, Sainik Colony, Shiv Mandir Sector G, Sainik Colony, Laxmi Narayan temple, Gandhi Nagar, Panch Mandir Channi, Durga Mandir, Shastri Nagar, Shiv Mandir Sector 3, Trikuta Nagar, Panch Mandir Sector 7, Trikuta Nagar, Shiv Temples, Canal road Jammu and Tawi bridge, Shri Krishna Mandir, Basant Nagar Janipur, Shri Krishna Temples, Dharmal, Barnai and Sarore, Bari Brahmana, Temples in Durga Nagar, Roop Nagar, Swaran Vihar, Baba Kailakh Nath Temple Thater Bantalab, Gosani Gund Ashram, Tumal Bohri, Shri Hari Kirtan Adiyatmik Jagrti Mission Jammu, temples in Bishnah, RS Pura, Marh, Kandoli Mata temple, Nagrota, Muthi, Rama Krishna Mission, Udaiwala Bohri, Kameshwar and other temples in Akhnoor. The Janamashtami was also celebrated in Swami Kumar Ji Geeta Satsangh Ashtam, Muthi. The Ashram celebrated its foundation day also today.
The two days function organized to commemorate Janmashtami concluded at Shiv Shakti Mandir, Sector-1, Pamposh Colony, Janipur.


The Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated in a unique and grand style at ISCKON Temple Dream City Muthi where hundreds of devotees drawn from different parts of Jammu and its outskirts participated from early in the morning. The day -long bhajan Kirtan was held in the temple premises by the devotees and a langer was also organized on the occasion.
