Congress leaders G A Mir, Ab Majid Wani not allowed to enter Kishtwar district

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Congress president G A Mir and its general secretary Abdul Majid Wani were on Friday were not allowed by Jammu and Kashmir Police to enter Kishtwar district.

While Mir was stopped at Patato Farm near Sinthon Top, Wani was detained at Thathri. Later, they were made to return back to their respective native places. Both Mir and Wani are former ministers.

Duo were on way to Kishtwar town to meet Youth Congress workers who, according to them, were injured in police lathicharge the previous day on party workers protesting against rising prices and failure of Central government on all fronts.

Pointing out that he along with his son were escorted Verinag by a police party from Kashmir and as per established security drill, they returned from Daksum near Sinthon Top as the area ahead fell in Kishtwar district.

However, on the other side of Sinthon Top near Patato Farm, they were stopped by a heavy contingent of police and CRPF personnel. “They did not even agree to provide us a passage through the district to proceed towards Jammu,’’ Mir said, adding that finally after nearly three hours, they were made to return to Verinag without any security.

“We drove the 90 km long road from Sinthon Top to Verinage alone without any security cover,’’ Mir said, adding that he got the escort from Dooru police station after he entered its jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, PCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma condemned the detention of both Mir and Wani who were on way to Kishtwar.

 JKPCC chief spokesperson termed it the worst misuse of power at the behest of ruling BJP to not allow the pcc chief and other senior Congress leaders to proceed to Kishtwar to meet the youth congress workers subjected to lathicharge  abd detention yesterday while peacefully protesting over the anti people  policies of the BJP government.
