Cash worth Rs 40 lakh, huge quantity of gold, silver among other valuables seized in Surankote

Poonch: In a joint days long operation, Jammu Kashmir Police alongwith army seized huge quantity of gold and silver, cash and other valuables from three houses in border Poonch district’s Surankote town.

Suspected to be stolen property, the seizures include Rs 40,72 Lakh in cash, gold ornaments weighing 1272.860 grams, silver ornaments weighing 1043 grams, 11 wrist watches 60 mobile phones and onecamera among other valuables.

Police said that a joint team of police and army with police team headed by SHO Surankote, Jatinder Singh Sambyal was on routine patrolling when an information was received regarding suspicious movement in three houses in general area of Surankote town after which after which search warrant of three houses was obtained from Executive Magistrate.

On this, an extensive search of all three houses was conducted during which huge amount of valuables were recovered from three houses.

The search was conducted in three houses which belonged to Jameela Begum wife of Shakeel Ahmed resident of Khet Mandi, at present store wali gali Surankote, Shanaz Akhter wife of Lt. Mohammad Azam resident of Iqbal colony Surankote and Rashida Begum @Sharifa Begum wife of Mehfooz Ahmed resident of Ari Mendhar, at present power house mohalla Surankote.

Police said that investigation into the matter has been initiated with a multi member police team headed by DySP Surankote, Khaliq Hussain is conducting investigation into forward and backward linkages.
