COVID-19: J-K Govt imposes night curfew in Jammu, Srinagar among 8 districts

Jammu: UT administration on Thursday decided to impose night curfew from tomorrow in urban areas of eight districts of Jammu and Kashmir which have been witnessing spike in COVID-19 cases.

“Directed the divisional administration to impose Corona curfew from 10 pm to 6 am in urban areas of eight districts affected by the recent #COVID spike,’’ a tweet from LG’s office said. These districts are Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, Srinagar, Baramulla, Budgam, Anantnag and Kupwara, it added.

Reasi dustrict will be under close observation for any possible spikes in the cases, it added.

Meanwhile, in view of the recent surge in COVID-19  positive cases in the region, Government Medical College, Jammu, has cancelled all kinds of leave (sanctioned or under consideration) of gazetted and non-gazetted officials of the GMC and associated hospitals with immediate effect except the medical/maternity leave. An order issued by GMC Principal Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma said that medical leave shall only be considered after the recommendations of the standing medicl board, asking all the heads of departments/officers to refrain from forwarding any kind of leave except maternity/medical leave duly recommended by the medical board to this office till further orders.

The Directorate of Health Services also ordered that all leaves (except maternity leave) of all the officers/officials working in Jammu division will not be sanctioned henceforth till further orders.

On Thursday, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday registered 835 new cases of COVID-19. According to UT government’s daily bulletin, while Jammu division had 280 cases, Kashmir (555) raising the total number of active COVID cases to 5,623 including 3,935 in Kashmir. A total of 2019 people   have so far died of COVID-19 in the Union Territory including 1,274 in Kashmir, it added.
