Mzaffar Baig joins Peoples Conference

Srinagar: In a major political development, senior politician and former deputy Chief Minister of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state, Muzaffar Hussain Baig on Wednesday joined Sajad Lone led Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference (JKPC) here.

The joining took place at his residence  at his Srinagar residence in presence of party chief Sajad Gani Lone, senior leader Abdul Gani Vakil, former MLA Zadibal Syed Abid Ansari, Raja Ajaz and other political leaders.

Baig was among the founding members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and he had parted ways from it last year in November after PAGD denied mandate to contest DDC elections to his wife Safeena Baig. However, she had contested the election as an independent candidate and emerged victorious after which she was also elected as DDC Chairperson of Baramulla district with the support of JKPC.

Moreover Baig’s joining to PC was inevitable after deserting PDP as he had earlier in the past praised Sajad Lone and had said, “PC has been like a home to me and Sajad Lone has been like my son.”

Meanwhile, announcing the joining of Baig into the party fold, Peoples Conference in a tweet said “it is with great pleasure we announce that one of the towering leaders of the state Mr. Muzaffar Hussein Baig is now part of the party from where he started his political journey. It is a nostalgic and a proud moment for all of us.’’
