10-year-old Ridhima acts as Tehsildar Pargwal on Monday

She was chosen through a week long selfie contest organised by tehsil administration to mark the National Girl Child Day celebrations

Akhnoor: People of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pargwal tehsil were on Monday in for a surprise when they saw a 10-year-old Ridhima Rajput occupying the chair of Tehsildar distributing domicile certificates to the locals.

A student of Class V and a resident of village Gowar, she was chosen through a week long selfie contest to act as Tehsildar for one day. The contest was organized by the local administration to mark the National Girl Child Day 2021 in Pargwal tehsil.  

She was also designated as Girl Child Ambassador under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) programme by Pargwal tehsil administration.

The tehsil administration took the initiative under Beti Bachao-Beti Padao programme. Tehsildar Pargwal Imtiaz Ahmed said that similar initiative to create awareness about the education of girl child will now be a regular feature of the administration in future as well.

Sarpanch Bhupinder Singh Manhas of Gowar Panchayat, appreciated the initiative taken by tehsil administration saying that it will encourage local girls feel that they are no less than boys and they can achieve anything through hard work and determination.
