Person impersonating as naib tehsildar arrested
Rajouri: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested an imposter who impersonating himself as a naib tehsildar had duped many unemployed youth in the name of providing them government jobs.
Identifying him as Altaf Hussain of Rehan in Kotranka tehsil, Rajouri SSP Chandan Kohli said that a formal complaint against him was lodged by on Iftikhar Khan of Tarkasi village in the same tehsil. The latter had alleged that Altaf impersonating himself as naib tehsildar had duped him of Rs five lakh on pretext of getting him a job in UT government’s finance department.
The complainant alleged that after taking the money, accused had also provided an appointment letter which on verification turned out to be fake.
During investigations by a police team headed by Inspector Ashiq Hussain of Peer Police Post and under supervision of DySP (Ops) Rajouri, Imtiaz Ahmed, it was found that the accused had duped many other youth on pretext of providing them government jobs. The amount taken by him from job seekers totaled around Rs 70 lakh.
Later, the accused who was absconding, was arrested by police from Jammu on the basis of technical surveillance, SSP said, adding that an MG Hector vehicle valuing Rs 20 lakh was seized from his possession.
