Two militants killed in Shopian
Shopian: Two militants were killed in an encounter between Jammu Kashmir Police and security forces in in Shopian district’s Kanigam area on Saturday. Pointing out that the encounter had started on Friday evening in which two army personnel had got injured, sources identified the slain militants as Owais Farooq pf Kadlabal Awantipora and Asif Lone of Turkwangam Shopian. They owed allegiance to Al Badr and were part of the group involved in attacks of security forces and committing atrocities on civilians, sources said, adding they were also involved in threatening people to stay away from just concluded District Development Council elections.
One held with drugs near a school in Anantnag
Anantnag: Police on Saturday arrested a person at a naka near school and recovered huge consignment of Codiene Phosphate from him. Identifying him as Kaiser Radhid Wani of Hardy Shichan Dialgam, sources said that he was riding a motorcycle when he was stopped by the police naka party. “During search, one bag containing 100 bottles of codiene phosphate were siezed from his possession.
Notorious thief arrested, LPG cylinders recovered
Rajouri: Police in Rajouri town on Satuday arrested a notorious thief and recovered 32 stolen Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders from him. Identified as Jawaid Maqbool, a resident of ward 8,sources said that the police had received a number of complaints in the recent weeks about the theft of domestic LPG cylinders from various houses. A police team headed by SHO Rajouri Sameer Jillani under the supervision of DSP Headquarter, Vinod Sharma started investigation and detained a suspect for questioning who later broke down and led to the recovery of 32 stolen LPG cylinders.
One held 135 kg poppy straw in Kathua
Kathua: A team of Anti Drug Unit of Kathua on Saturday nabbed a narco smuggler and seized 135 kgs of poppy straw being transported by him in a truck to Punjab. Identifying the accused as Happy Kumar of Sunder Chack in R S Pura, Jammu, sources said that the anti-drug unit personnel intercepted the truck loaded with apple boxes at Londi Morh on the Jammu-Kathua national highway.
