Sunderbani, December 16: Former minister and Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress vice president, Raman Bhalla on Wednesday accused BJP government of deliberately delaying the holding of early assembly elections and restoration of statehood to the Union Territory and asked people to convey their anger to the Central government by defeating BJP in the District Development Council elections.

Addressing a largely attended public meeting at Marchola here alongwith PCC Chief Spokesperson and former MLC Ravinder Sharma, Bhalla said BJP has destroyed the identity, status and rights of the people. Only Congress can fight the arbitrary style of functioning of the BJP government, he added.

Pointing out that BJP has ruined the future of youth, farmers and common people by its wrong policies and programmes in Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress leader said the jobs opportunities have been opened up for outsiders and the land is available for sale to anybody across the country at the cost of locals. From neighbouring Himachal Pradesh, where people of J&K and other states can’t buy lands in view of legal restrictions, BJP leaders have come to Jammu for canvassing and convincing people about benefits of new land laws and job norms, Bhalla added.

He urged people to vote against BJP, saying that it has misled people on every front just to remain in power. He also accused BJP Government of being ignorant of the problems facing people in rural areas, where majority population was poor and deprived of basic amenities.

JKPCC chief spokesperson and former MLC Ravinder Sharma referred to various development works sanctioned during his period as a legislator including a Degree College at Sunderbani, two major hospitals, five BDO blocks, creation of three tehsils and five niabats, 52 crore irrigation project, industrial estate and fruit mandi etc. However, work on several such initiatives is at the stand still due to neglect of BJP government, he added.
